Boost for a Barwon Heads Allied Health Business

Locals in Barwon Heads are set to benefit from an expansion of a popular allied health business which will create more jobs – thanks to support from the Victorian Government.

Acting Member for Bellarine Gayle Tierney congratulated 13th Beach Health Services on the grant which will enable them to undertake a redevelopment worth more than $600,000 and create 10 new roles, making the group one of the largest employers in the coastal community.

The business was supported through the Regional Jobs Fund which is part of the Victorian Government’s flagship Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund and is designed to help businesses create more jobs in regional Victoria.

Based in Barwon Heads since 2009, 13th Beach provides allied health services such as osteopathy, physiotherapy, podiatry, myotherapy, reformer pilates and remedial massage services.

Moving into a larger facility will enable the business to add two new treatment rooms and a rehabilitation centre to cope with the increased patient load. This will avoid patients having to travel to Geelong or Melbourne for treatment and, in turn, reducing the pressure on local GPs.

New thermal and facial technology will also be introduced as part of the project to make the business more adaptive to coronavirus restrictions and to ensure contact tracing can be quickly activated as needed.

13th Beach is also helping to train the next wave of allied health professionals through a partnership with Deakin and Australian Catholic University in Ballarat by continuing to provide short-term work placements for students.

The current round of the Regional Jobs Fund is open to companies seeking to grow their operations.

The Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund is part of the Government’s almost $30 billion investment across regional and rural Victoria since 2015.
