Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club

It was great to join with members, families and friends of the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club for their annual presentation night. It was an important occasion and an opportunity to honour the work and service of all club members. Club championship awards for 2013-14 went to winners in all the club sections, including the open female club champion award to Kira Kinsey and the open male club champion award to Blake Sweeney, both of whom won for a second year running. The Rookie of the Year award, presented to a new member who shows commitment and dedication, was awarded to Lachlan Gawley-Price.

The Ray Johnson Memorial Nipper of the Year award went to Shae Straw-McMahon for making a significant contribution across all areas of club life.

Ray was a former president and life member, instrumental in the development of the Nipper program, which now has about 300 members, one of the biggest in Victoria. The Patrol Service Award for the member who did the most volunteer hours went to Wes Prosser, who did about 90 hours. The Barry Renton Memorial Best Competitor award went to Lucy Conquit, and the most prestigious award, the John Bishop Memorial Best Clubman Award, was awarded this year to Steve Peatling.

The club makes a significant contribution to the local community, and we rely on their bravery and commitment to enable us to enjoy our beautiful beach. It was a great event enjoyed by all. Congratulations to all those involved, particularly Chris Paterson, the club president, Tamsin Selway, Fran Rowlands, John Fitzgerald and Kylie Taylor, as well as to the sponsor, Alan Barber of the Ocean Grove Voice. Special congratulations to all the 2014 award winners, especially all the young people, who showed such great enthusiasm.
