OUTDOOR GYM EQUIPMENT WINS PICK MY PROJECT FUNDING

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville today announced that outdoor gym equipment to be installed in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale has secured funding through Pick My Project – the Andrews State Government’s ground breaking program that gives locals the power to choose the projects their community needs.

Ms Neville announced the Rotary Club of Queenscliffe  had been awarded $127,000 to install the fitness equipment at four stations along the Point Lonsdale foreshore and one pod of 14 exercise machines in Princess Park.

Ms Neville said the equipment was a great initiative and will provide important ready access to locals to get outdoors and exercise. This is especially so given the equipment is suitable for all ages but partuclary seniors.

I take this opportunity to congratulate the members of the Queenscliffe Rotary Club on this great project. But I also congratulate them for all the work they do across the Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale communities.

The equipment one of four projects across the Bellarine that will receive funding through the $30 million, Victorian-first initiative.

Other local projects to receive funding are

  • Lighting for the Collendina Sports Ground.
  • Construction of an All Abilities walking track at the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve
  • Construction of a Spring Dell Board walk, in Clifton Springs.

Through the $30 million Pick My Project initiative, Victorian residents aged 16 and over were given the opportunity to submit their idea for a project or program that made their community a better place to live.

People were then given the chance to vote for their favourite project. More than 95,000 Victorians cast votes, with successful projects receiving grants of between $20,000 and $200,000.

More than 230 projects across Melbourne and regional Victoria received funding through Pick My Project, with funding divided equally between Melbourne and regional Victoria based on the population of each of the six metropolitan and nine regional partnership areas.

To ensure a range of small and large communities had the opportunity to be part of Pick My Project, no more than 50 per cent of a partnership areas funding was awarded to one local government area.
