Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville today welcomed the Premiers announcement of an $860,000 grant to the Ocean Grove Tennis Club, providing for significant upgrade to the clubs courts and rooms.

Ms Neville said that she had been pleased to have worked with the club and to have provided it strong support in developing and funding its redevelopment.

I am especially pleased that the club focused its redevelopment on ensuring tennis was available to people of all abilities and ages.

This is highlighted by the clubs plans to upgrade two courts for it’s terrific Wheel Chair Tennis program, she said.

The plans also include providing full disability access to the club’s rooms and facilities such as toilets, change rooms and kitchen, Ms Neville added.

Ms Neville said the Ocean Grove Tennis Club is the biggest tennis club on the Bellarine with over 400 members. The membership is constantly growing and includes both strong junior and veterans membership.

This significant grant will ensure the club continues to grow and prosper, which means more tennis for more people, Ms Neville said.

Of course, clubs like Ocean Grove are also more than a game of tennis. They create an important connection and cohesion for a community by providing social engagement for many people who may otherwise not have that important contact with others, she added.

I take this opportunity to congratulate the Committee of Management on the work it has done in securing this grant and I now look forward to working with them on the much anticipated upgrade, Ms Neville concluded.
