Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced today that $500,000 from this years State Budget had been allocated to the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club.

Ms Neville said that the club had received State Government funding of $1.5 million in 2017 for the upgrade to their clubrooms, but after planning and design works had been completed there was shown to be a shortfall of $500,000 to complete the works.

Ms Neville said that the Point Lonsdale SLSC and its members, led by club President Matt Ponsford, had worked hard over many years in raising over $400,000 for the upgrade and now this years budget allocation will ensure that the upgrade will now go ahead.

I have been very pleased to have worked with the club, and for the club, in seeking this much needed Government funding and today’s budget announcement will now allow the club to focus more on saving lives and less on fundraising, Ms Neville said.

The Point Lonsdale back beach has been rated by Life Saving Victoria as one of the four most dangerous beaches in Victoria and I know that the club and its members do a magnificent job in protecting the lives of thousands of beach goers every summer, Ms Neville said

Therefore it is only right that we fund the facilities that they need to carry out this important work as effectively as possible Ms Neville said.

I commend and thank the club and all its dedicated volunteer members for the work they do, this years budget allocation is very much well deserved, Ms Neville concluded.
