Lisa Neville, the Member for Bellarine, announced a commitment of $100k to the Barwon Heads Cricket Club if an Andrews Labor Government is elected in November.

Ms Neville joined Cricket Club President, Russell Hyland, at the first night of Barwon Heads Community Cricket.

Players of all ages were there to celebrate the start of the season.

Ms Neville said, “The commitment of $100k will go towards providing an extended, covered outdoor area.

“This will not only benefit the Cricket Club, but also the Junior Football teams and the Barwon Heads Soccer Club, who also use the facilities.

“The new shaded spectator viewing area will be designed to provide the Clubs’ players and supporters with protection in summer and winter.

Mr Hyland, President of the Barwon Heads Cricket Club welcomed the announcement.

“We are grateful to Ms Neville for her support.

“This extended outdoor area will enhance the experience for the Clubs and visiting teams.

“It will enable us to operate more effectively and encourage people of all ages to get involved in local sport.

Ms Neville said, “The Clubrooms are a highly valued community asset and if re-elected I will continue to work with the Clubs on the redevelopment of the facilities.

“The extended outdoor area is an important first step.

“It is vital that we continue to support and promote our local sporting clubs.  They do a fantastic job particularly with our young people.

“We know that involvement in sports clubs promotes health and social engagement, and these clubs are at the heart of towns like Barwon Heads.
