A number of local infrastructure projects in Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff opened today will benefit local communities, making regional Victoria an even better place to live, work and visit.

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville, alongside Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson and Cr Helene Cameron, Mayor of Queenscliffe, opened Stage 3 of the Point Lonsdale Foreshore Revitalisation project, unveiling a new barbecue and picnic facilities, park furniture and an accessible amenities block.

Minister Neville toured the upgrades, which are ideally situated for community events and will help drive visitation to the area.

The Point Lonsdale Foreshore Revitalisation project has attracted $1.5 million in Victorian Government investment (past and present) over the three project stages. Stage 3 of the revitalisation project received $300,000 from Regional Development Victoria with a further $80,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria towards upcoming improvements to the playground area.

Minister Neville also officially opened the upgraded Queenscliff Heritage Railway Station Precinct.

The project has made significant improvements to one of Queenscliff’s most treasured tourist attractions, including platform extensions and fencing, as well as the installation of a locomotive turntable and new barbecue and picnic facilities.

The senior citizens and sea scouts facilities have also been enhanced and are now better integrated into the entire precinct.

Unique tourism attractions like the Queenscliff Heritage Railway Station Precinct play a critical role in driving economic growth in regional areas with a recent review finding that visitors to the Heritage Railway injected $7.85 million into the local economy every year.

The Victorian Government is investing in regional tourism infrastructure, with the visitor economy vital to creating local jobs and adding $11.4 billion to the regional economy every year.
