Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville today announced that funding of $2.5 million had now been formally transferred from the Destination Queenscliff project to the Queenscliff Hub.

The announcement came after formal arrangements had been completed between the State Government and the Borough of Queenscliff.

Ms Neville said she had delivered on her commitment of transferring the funding after there was much community concern and anger expressed with aspects of Destination Queenscliff.

As I said at the time, it was clear the community of Queenscliff was divided on the project and the State Government is not in the business of dividing communities.

To the contrary, the Queenscliff Hub redevelopment enjoys community wide support and it will ensure that important community organisations and services like the library, Historic Museum and the Visitor Information Centre are totally refurbished, she added.

It is a project that has been on the drawing board for many years and now this State Government funding will ensure it becomes a reality, Ms Neville said.

In total the State Government will provide funding of $4.15 million toward the project, being made up of the $2.5 million, an extra $1.2 million from the Community Support Fund and $450,000 from Living Libraries, Ms Neville said.

In addition, I will be personally Chairing the Community Reference Group overseeing the project to ensure the community is appropriately and transparently consulted.

Over my 16 years as the local member I have always ensured that I have listened to the community, worked with them and strongly advocated on their behalf, Ms Neville said.

As a result, today we see full funding being made available for the Hub and I now look forward to working on the Reference Group and the Borough getting on with the job of getting this project underway, Ms Neville concluded.
